What does 화랑 HwaRang mean and what can we expect at 화랑 HwaRang Week?
For all students trying to finalising outstanding signatures to get ready for the upcoming grading the HwaRang is almost a must-attend event plus really the best opportunity to fine tune their techniques.
Since Hapkido is a Korean martial art we at Kinetic Martial Arts highly value the history, etiquette and the traditional way of teaching Hapkido we focus on educating our students, not just in the art of self defence but, also on the cultural aspect of the art (discipline, etiquette and chunk-sized bits of history).
The Hwarang were an elite group of male youth in ancient Korea. There were educational institutions as well as social clubs where members gathered for all aspects of study.
“Hwarang” is most often translated as “Flower Knights” or “Flower Youths.” Hwa is the Sino-Korean (hanja) character for flower or the act of blooming. Rang means man, sometimes used as a suffix in Silla official titles.
Therefore perfect for our week of high-focus techniques. During HwaRang you will learn a lot of why techniques work, how they work best and why they’re invented. Apart from having a great deal of time studying your current syllabus you will potentially learn new kicks, strikes, falls and fun-filled methods of getting more out of your Hapkido. Once again; a must for every serious Hapkido student and a joyous and educational one-week journey for the youngsters.
